Lowndes County and the Road to Black Power

Peacock, 2023

The Film. In a town that was eighty percent Black but had zero Black voters, laws were just paper without power. Lowndes County and the Road to Black Power tells the story of the local movement and young Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) organizers who fought not just for voting rights, but for Black Power in Lowndes County.

The Campaign. Our social media campaign sparked new awareness of Lowndes County during Black History Month with informational content featuring creator Garrison Hayes highlighting key moments in the film to deepen engagement, as well as creator Michael Kelly commemorating the anniversary of the Voting Rights Act of 1965 and raising awareness about the ongoing battle for voting rights.
